Session
1. Program Overview and Preliminaries.
The Facilitator
conducts introductions of and between participants via ice breakers;
provide an overview of the Program, expectations of the program
and the participants, and the Program schedule; administer the pre-tests
and hand-out participant Program folders.

Session 2.
Substance Prevention, Part 1.
The Facilitator
informs the participants about the dangers and misuse/abuse of drugs
and addictive substances, the effects of addictive substances, and
preventive actions to take in order to avoid the use and abuse of
addictive substances. The primary substances that are covered during
this session are marijuana, cocaine, and steroids. Each participant
is expected to write a journal entry about this session.
Session 3.
Substance Prevention, Part 2.
The Facilitator
informs the participants about the dangers and misuse/abuse of drugs
and addictive substances, the effects of addictive substances, and
preventive actions to take in order to avoid the use and abuse of
addictive of addictive substances. The primary substances that are
covered during this session are alcohol, inhalants, prescription
medication, pain medications, ecstasy, and club drugs. Each participant
is expected to write a journal entry about this session.

4. Legal System.
The Facilitator
conducts an open disscusion about the state legal system, laws that
affect youth, responsibility and accountability of personal actions,
and re-actions and consequences toward every personal action taken.
The participants will view a thirty minute documentary on the Florida
Prison System. Each participant is expected to write a journal entry
about this session.
Session 5.
Conflict Resolution.
The Facilitator
instructs and assists the participants in choosing alternative behaviors
to resorting to violence. The Facilitator also provides conflict
scenarios and allows the participants to role play and demonstrate
the use of conflict resolution behaviors. Each participant is expected
to write a journal entry about this session.

Session 6.
Anger Management.
The Facilitator
instructs and assists the participants in managing and controlling
their anger in disagreeable situations. The Facilitator also provides
conflict scenarios and allows the participants to role play and
demonstrate the use of anger management methods. Each participant
is expected to write a journal entry about this session.
Session 7.
Health Issues, Part 1.
The Facilitator
discusses with the participants topics pertaining to the physical
and mental health of men. The focus of this session includes, but
not limited to phyiscal activity, healthy eating habits, and hygienic
practices. Each participant is expected to write a journal entry
about this session.
Session 8.
Health Issues, Part 2.
The Facilitator
discusses with the participants topics pertaining to the sexual
health of men. The focus of this session is sexually transmitted
diseases, how to detect STDs, how to prevent transmitting STDs,
and how to get tested for STDs. The Facilitator will provide a "show
and tell" demonstration/presentation to the participants about
STDs about prevention methods. Additionally, the Facilitator will
discuss with the participants the disadvantages and responsibilities
of engaging in pre-marital sex, while promoting abstinence. Each
participant is expected to write a journal entry about this session.
Session
9. Shaking Baby Syndrome.
A medical represenative
and/or the Facilitator discusses with the participants about the
dangers of shaking a baby and consequences resulting from it. The
representative and/or the Facilitator willl provide a demonstration
to the participants about the effects of shaking a baby. Each participant
is expected to journal entry about this session.
Session 10.
Being a Man - "Daddy's Gone".
The Facilitator
conducts an open discussion about the participants' personal perception
about being a Man, being a Father, and being a Dad. The Facilitator
also initiates discussions about growing up with a dad, an inactive
dad, and/or without a dad and what is the difference between a father
and a dad. Each participant is expected to express through art,
song, dance, or poetry their personal thoughts and perceptions about
growing up with a Dad, an inactive dad, or without a dad. The most
creative display of expression will be performed at the graduation
ceremony.

Session 11.
Open Forum - "Let's Talk".
The Facilitator
conducts an open discussion about the journal entries of the participants.
The Facilitator will allow the participants to read from their journal
entries and/or discuss topics from Sessions 2-10.
Session 12.
Program Wrap-Up.
The Facilitator
administers the post-tests and Program evaluations and offers words
of encouragement to the participants.
Session 13.
"Reasons not to become a teenage parent"
The Facilitator
and participants visit the County Courthouse to observe a child
support hearing. The Facilitator creates a mock case and the participants
will role play the specifics of the case at the County Courthouse
with the involvement of professional judges. Each participant is
expected to write a journal entry about this session.
Session 14.
"Life on the Inside"
The Facilitator
and participants visit the Leon County Jail to witness life as a
prisoner. The participants will have the opportunity to ask questions
during the tour as well as observe life without freedom.
At the completion
of each 12 week session, the Agency hosts a Graduation Ceremony
for the participants for the six-week sessions as well as the twelve-week
sessions. It is during the Graduation Ceremony that each participant
shall receive a certificate and awards will be rendered. Additionally,
the participant(s) with the most creative demonstration of what
they have learned will showcase their project. The Agency invites
the family members and friends of the participants to enjoy this
occasion. |
